The Lightwriters Photography Club was formed in the summer of 2008 as a forum for amateur photographers to learn from one another in a relaxed, social environment. There is no cost for membership, although there may be costs associated with events such as photo contests, trips to conduct location shoots, etc.
Sadly Ritz Camera announced the closing of half their stores nationwide. Among the casulaties were the stores in both Fairfield and Vacaville. Due to the closure of the Vacaville Ritz store, we are moving our meetings to Round Table Pizza at the corner of Alamo Dr and Merchant St, Vacaville. Meetings are held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 7 pm.
The meeting on the 1st Wednesday of the month is for showing photos from the previous month's assignment. These assignments range from holiday themes to exercises in various photo techniques. The meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of the month is classroom format where members learn to use Photoshop, or another photo software, or pratical techniques such as shooting macro, still life, or portraits. The classes are given by members, or specialists in their fields, and are hands on. Members are encouraged to bring their laptops and cameras.
Group shoots are scheduled for club members to attend. These are location shoots where members can discuss how to shoot a particular subject and learn from each other while practicing their craft.
Members are given their own web page on this site to display their work, free of charge. Feel free to attend a meeting and have fun learning about photography, and developing your style and expression.
Each year we hold a Photo Contest to give members a chance to show off their work and have them judged by a professional photographer. Check our Contest Rules page and our Featured Photos page for contest information and past winners.
We had a guest speaker at a meeting, Michael Bouyer, who has offered to instruct us on various aspects of photography. Come to a meeting to find out more and click on his name to go to his website.
